Who We Are
The St. Joseph Preparatory School Alumni Association is alive and well in Bardstown, Kentucky. St. Joe has been closed since 1968. That's almost 40 years without any new alumni for us, but we're far from finished. We plan to be around at least 40 more. The association was revitalized in 1991 and has grown since then into a very active group.
We have twice yearly "cook-ins" at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bardstown and send out one or two newsletters each year. We also have our annual all-classes homecoming the last weekend of June each year on the old St. Joe Prep grounds in Bardstown. Xavier Hall, Spalding Hall and Flaget Hall, along with the old gymnasium building have had much renovation on the inside since 1968, but on the outside they all appear pretty much the same today as they did four decades ago.

Today Xavier Hall serves as City Hall and as the fire department for the City of Bardstown. Flaget Hall houses a private business and rental apartments. Spalding Hall is the home of the St. Joe Prep Alumni Room, as well as the Oscar Getz Museum of Bourbon Whiskey and Xavier's Restaurant. The current curator for Spalding Hall is Mary Ellen Hamilton, wife of Larry Hamilton '65.

Our St. Joe Prep Alumni Room is housed in Spalding Hall. It has much memorabilia from St. Joe's glory days, including most of the old athletic trophies from over the years, and much, much more. If anyone has yearbooks or mementos from 1947 and earlier, we would love to give them a new 'old' home.

One of our St. Joe Prep Graduates has had a Hollywood movie made about him. General Harold Moore '40 holds this celebrity distinction. The movie 'We Were Soldiers' is riveting, real, tough and unbelievable. We should be proud to
have graduated from the same prep school as General Harold Moore.
