Baptisms

May 8, 2011

Jesus blessed the little children who came to him.

Children are dressed in their white Baptismal garments as a sign of the new life that is theirs.

Godfathers come forward to light the children’s candles from the Paschal candle.

They are admonished to help keep the flame alive until the children come to Eucharist and Confirmation.

Amen!   Alleluia!!

Children are anointed with Sacred Chrism on the crown of the head.

Sacred Chrism is blessed by the Archbishop at the cathedral during Holy Week each year.

Children are claimed for Jesus Christ with the sign of the cross on their foreheads.

Parents and godparents are also asked to sign the child with a cross.
