C. recently was chosen and attended the 2009 4-H Teen Summit for 6th graders at the Kentucky Leadership Center in Jabez, Kentucky.  She participated in leadership activities and workshops with more than 200 4-H members from across Kentucky. This was held March 5th through March 7th.

BUSY GIRL
Jennifer..  A sixth grader, placed 9th out of 40 participants, in the Jr. Forestry Field day held at Mammoth Caves.
 Ten counties were represented at this event.

Jennifer served as a Page to Rep. Floyd during the General Assembly on February 25, 2009.

CALLING ALL TURKEYS
Ms. Essex-Miller’s  4 ˝ week reading enrichment class focused on strengthening reading skills necessary for every day life.  Students completed comprehension activities involving catalog rebates, movie listings, want ads, play bills, applications, driving directions, schedules, policies, and product installation instructions.  Students wrote business letters to their favorite companies as their final project.  Cameron M. and Nicholas L. received the first response. The Knight and Hale Game Call Company donated turkey calls and product guides to each student in the class. Cameron M., right, is pictured with a rattle bag deer call that he requested along with a turkey call, and Nicholas L., left, is pictured with the product guides.

All students begin each quarter on phase 5.  Phase 5 is maintained unless there are discipline infract ions.  A phase drop takes place when a student receives 3 write-ups in on week (Thursday-Wednesday) or is assigned detention.  Assignment to Safe Room will result in a student dropping 2 phases.  Assignment to Saturday School will result in a student dropping 3 phases.  A student who is assigned to the alternative school will drop 4 phases.

Discipline infractions include, for example:

Failure to return signed report card, midterm report, note to parent/guardian

Time Out will constitute in a write-up; name left by substitute will result in detention.

Phases may be regained (one at a time) by, for example:

Getting two or less write-ups for a week

Bringing in the missing signed note, report card, midterm report, phase report

 

Extracurricular activities are covered by SBDM Council policies.

Grade level rewards will occur every 3 weeks.

*Administration may use their discretion to allow students to participate in specific activities.
